Where is Wigan Located ? Wigan is situated in the Northwest of England in the UK, it is a small town located approximately half way between the Cities of Liverpool and Manchester, roughly 17 miles(27km )to either .

In 1974 reorganisation of local government, which dismembered the ancient county of Lancashire as well as changing the whole system of local administration, Wigan became a borough in the Metropolitan County of Greater Manchester, England.The town Wigan  stands on the River Douglas, 7.9 miles (13 km) south-west of Bolton, 10 miles (16 km) north of Warrington and 16 miles (25.7 km) west-northwest of Manchester. Wigan is the largest settlement in the Metropolitan Borough of Wigan and is its administrative centre absorbing the whole of the former Borough of Leigh and the Urban Districta of Ince-in-Makerfiled, Orrell, Standish-with-Langtree, Aspull, Hindley, Abram, Atherton, and Tyldesley, and a major part of the Urban Districts of Golborne, Ashton-in-Makerfield,  Billinge and Winstanley, together with the Parishes of Haigh, Worthington and Shevington from the former Wigan Rural District. The town of Wigan had a total population of 81,203 in 2001,whilst the wider borough has a population of 305,600. The town is the headquarters of the Greater Manchester Combined Authority, the top tier administrative body for Greater Manchester.
